Fukami Chair of Shinto Studies
The Toshu Fukami Professorship of Shinto Studies was originally established in Columbia University’s Department of Religion in 2001. The institutional backing for the endowment is provided by the International Shinto Foundation. Prof. Michael Como was nominated to the chair in 2006, and Dr. Fukami of the ISF generously increased the funding for the endowment in April 2008. The chair is now a position in both the Department of Religion and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures.
