Religion Study at Columbia

Asian Religions are particularly well represented at Columbia and Barnard, with Jack Hawley and Rachel MacDermott teaching South Asian Religion, Robert Thurman teaching Tibetan Buddhism, Chun-fang Yu teaching Chinese Buddhism, and another forthcoming position in Korean Buddhism.

With Bernard Faure and Michael Como, and Max Moerman at Barnard, the Japanese Religion Program has gained new ground at Columbia University. Other faculty interested in various (literary, artistic) aspects of Japanese religion include Haruo Shirane, David Lurie, Wiebke Denecke (Barnard), and Matthew McKelwey.
